The desert life.

It seems like just yesterday I was leaving class in Boulder to make a quick trip down to Tucson to get in some warm weather training. I found myself in Tucson again this winter but instead of coming down for two weeks, I'll be down here for two weeks. This will be my third year coming down to Tucson and I've grown to like it. Prior to making the migration south I was in Colorado Springs where I was able to get in some good quality rides, all on my Single Speed for the most part! I really like riding the single speed because it always makes it tough. 90% of the time you're either riding hard just to keep moving or working on your leg speed because you are spun out. You're very rarely in what feels what the "right" gear. I think it's a good way to keep the fitness up and just works on your pedaling efficiency quite a bit.

Another nice day in Colorado with my rockstar training partner, Kalan Beisel

I decided to head to Tucson a couple days before the New Year. After 10 hours of driving I found myself cruising with the AC on, I knew I was getting close! If I'm already traveling to a new location for winter in pursuit of warm weather does that make me a snowbird at the age of 20?! Haha. Things have been going good down here. I just wrapped up a really solid 3 week training block and after a week of rest will be back at it again. As of last night, I got word that I will for sure be doing the Tour of the Dominican Republic with Kerry, Jack, Grotts, roommate Rob Bush and one other roadie. It's a 8 day stage race from February 20-27. Should be some good training and hard racing to get me ready for the first few races in March. I'm really looking forward to getting back into racing and making 2012 my best yet!

Other than training not too much has been going down here at the house. We've got a pool so I've been spending some quality time out there. Whether it's waking wiffle balls into it or just relaxing it's nice to have. We have a Foosball table as well so we can get into some pretty intense tournaments going on. I've got plenty of room to improve in that area. Other than that it's a lot of riding, recovering, core and hanging out. It's the perfect set up for having a successful 2012. I recently partnered up with Strava so be sure to give me a follow and check out some of the rides I've been doing! I hope you're as excited for the racing to start as I am; 2012 is going to be a great year!

Sam, Emily and Adam are in Tucson as well so we took a trip to visit team sponsor Genuine Innovations. Great company and great products. Thanks for the tour!

One of my roommates here Rob Squire poses in the pool, a typical afternoon activity.

The foosball score board. I've got some catching up to do.

Good friend Rich Weis lives just outside Phoenix, AZ so I took the trip up there to visit and ride.

Group rides here start at 7:30 AM so I've been able to catch a few sunrises.
